Upon earning his Juris Doctor in 2001, Cabanillas was admitted to the New York Bar and obtained a position as an associate in the Corporate and Securities Department of the New York office of the law firm Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, LLP. . In 2003, Cabanillas moved to the West Coast, took the California Bar and partnered with the law firm Buchalter Nemer Fields & Younger, LLP. His work here focused on joint venture matters and tax credit syndication in its Real Estate Finance Department. In 2004, he became an associate at the California law firm of Cox Castle & Nicholson, LLP, where he focused his practice on real estate development.
Cabanillas subsequently returned to New York where he established his own law firm in 2006. Cabanillas & Associates, PC has offices in White Plains, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Long Island, Union City (NJ), North Brunswick (NJ) and Stamford (CT). Cabanillas currently concentrates his practice in immigration, real estate, foreclosure defense litigation, and mortgage loan modifications.
When he is not practicing law or spending time with his family, Cabanillas is a dedicated supporter of El Centro Hispano, the White Plains-based nonprofit organization founded more than 40 years ago to help, support and strengthen Hispanic families. . Since 2015, Cabanillas has raised over $50,000.00 for the organization and has received recognition in the form of proclamations from the City of White Plains, Westchester County, and the State of New York. He is also proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the nonprofit Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.
